QUESTION 3
Men in the Tales are described as idiots, blindly and foolishy adhering to outdated, impractical codes of chivalry and honour." Do you agree? Refer to some of the tales.

So so, they sometimes are arrogant, and stupid, because they believe that when they have a girlfriend, immediately his girlfriends are converted in his possession, but, we know that it doesn´t is so. They and we are different and no-body is equal with their partner or couple. But, there are good things, for example, they are very special with us, and help us, but, the problem begin when they are jealous. In The Clerk´s Tale, Walter (who is the clerk), has to get married but, he doesn´t want, after his nobles said him that, he must be an heir to the throne, finally he accept but, he will choose whoever he want. Walter choose to Griselda, she was a daughter of a peasant called Janicula, she was loved for everyone, she was generous, hard-working, humble, and honest, so he decided take as wife. Griselda promised to obey to him in everything. Griselda was much loved by all the people in the land and people came far just for look at her, after she gave birth to first daughter. But shortly after, Walter began to doubt Griselda´s loyalty, and he decided to dispose of their daughter, and she gave her consent. He did it, just by put a test of loyalty to her. Four years ago, she gave birth to boy, but, when the child was two years old, Walter said to her that the boy was to be sacrificed, and she didn´t say nothing. It was the second prove that Walter did to Griselda, but he didn´t find variation in her attitude, then he applied to the Pop in Rome to annul to marriage to Griselda so that he could marry another woman. Griselda once again accepted her husband´s orders. Then when he saw that she no protested, Walter felt sad when Griselda gutting out and he said to her that she was his wife and always will be! And he shows their children and promised that he never will separate again. How can someone doubt of lover, when others shows what love the other?
im agree with that because all the men in the stories only think about sex and selfish love band theynever think with his mind, they always think with his hearth. idont think that this is bad but the hearth its not everything. att gerbin angulo 20082165037
we can find several personalities of men, there are men proud and wicked, that doesn't important mistreat and hurt people, like in the tale of the knight's tale the evil king of Thebes named creon that killed people and hurt womens but in the same tale there is men courageous who fought for the love of a woman as arcita and palamon who were cousins. In the other tales of Canterbury there are men that maybe make stupid things like in the miller's tale, there was an old men, who was mocked by young men who fall in love of his wife and at the end, that men stayed with the wife of the old men. I don't agree that men were idiots and foolish, All is relative depend of de context or of the manner that we will see it.
In almost all the stories the description of the men was that they were very jealous and posessive with the womenand with their wives, but in other tales were wise men and gentlemen, were inteligent and peculiar.In The Knight's Tale we can see that a gentleman in whom they highlight the qualities of the honor, the comity and the nobility of spirit; that has taken part in numerous battles, fifteen exactly, and he has travelled for all Europe and the north of Africa; he defends the faith, observes the feudal customs and takes part in numerous tilts, in which he works out always victorious. In addition, he is simple and humble and he never sprouts an irrelevancy of his mouth.
I'm agree, men are so selfish and they always want to subdue women like if they were more but sometimes the only that they prove its that they're fool and weak..
In "The reeve's tale", Simpkin's character represents bully..cause he's a large man, bigbond and muscular.Also he's shameless and selfish..but he's fool and at the end his wife leaves him behind..
In "The Miller's tale" John was married with Alison who cheated on him all the time with Nicholas instead of Jhon was older and bigger...he was so dumb...
i think that its true most men trust so much in their girlfriends that they sometimes dont think with their heads and start to think with his ass so like i say before this stories are a funny way to show the reality jeje thats the way i think
Men is usually described, as an arrogant persons, who are always taking advantage of what they have, or know, for example in the Miller’s Tale, Nicholas; a student of astrology, is very clever, he had a crush on Alison, who was dating with a carpenter which had no knowledge, more than things related to wood. Nicholas, planned a charade against the carpenter, to win Alison love, and get away with her. ¿Clever or wicked?
I think that men are equal to women. We’re all the same thing; Humans. We all cheat, lie, trying to get our goals, it’s in our nature to be like that. Women as in “The Wife of bath’s tale” are always looking for the best, no matter what it takes. Finding, a rich partner, which you’ll spend the rest of you life with. Love is important but you can’t eat, live of love. It’s a selfish, and a superficial point of view, but the “bad” feelings end up, when you feel the good ones. And men are like that. Some of them; for example the tale of Palamon, and Arcite, Palamon is the best example for what I’m trying to explain, he had the good feelings; because he had all the willing to gain Emily’s love. No matter what he had to do, it was a question of win the love of his life, but instead Arcite was a kind of coward because he wanted Emily too, but it was most important to demonstrate his strength to everybody. Men in that time and even now, in the modern times, are always trying to show things that they’re not. Clearly the truth is that we all (even women) are nothing but cowards.
i disagree.I think that it depends of the story. in many stories they were not blind and idiots because the people in that time thought that the honour and the chivalry was very important in men. in that time the people fought and took revenge because of the honour and love as we can see in the Knight's tale, in which, Arcite and Palamon fought for Emelye´s love.
But in other tales the men were so crazy, jealous, selfishs and idiots; as we can see in the Miller's tale in which Nicholas contrives to sleep with Allison by telling lies; or in the Reeve's tale in which the miller repeatedly cheat his clients.
sometimes men belives that women belong them. For example in the knight`s tale the cousins Palamon and Arcita fight for a woman and they spoil their relation-ship and i think that it is stupid because family is most important that the love for a woman.
In the knight’s tale specially, I can see that Chaucer gives a superficial way to conceive the love, because at first Emily did not want to marry one of those men (Arcite and Palamon) but amazingly after the battle between Arcite and Palamon she fell in love with Palamon, moreover she did not express or show some pain or any feeling refer to Arcite’s state. Even in many stories referred to the times of knights and princesses the love has this view, the princess not even knew any guy, but one day arrives a man who mysteriously change her life or save her life and it seems love at first sight or some like that, because that man suddenly is her “blue prince” and she did not even know his life or his customs. So I ask myself: Where can be in the past or in those stories the real mean of love? Well I refer to love of a couple which they two know each other, to a relationship that configures a strong feeling past much time. There are many things that make love what it is, a special, strong, “long”, and unbreakable, maybe or occasionally, feeling or sensation. Even so I think that every body has a personal concept or mean of love, that concept depends of experiences, thoughts and liking.
I do not really want to refer to a single tale, I would rather to talk about this topic in a global form because I think in every tale one of these “states” is treated in a way or another. For example in the Miller’s tale the man is treated like a blind person, his wife is unfaithful to him with his lodger and he does not even realize that, well, perhaps exists the possibility of a believer man; in the knight’s tale man is treated like a blind man too, but in this tale the man is blinded because of his “love”, I would say is blinded at first because of a beautiful woman (in reality also that happens), in another tales man is treated like a thief, a superstitious, that could be idiot for some people. I think that men are treated in that form because they or we are like that, in reality we act as idiots in many ways and in many cases, at the same time we are blind or fool and the most of the times we are like that because we do not realize, we just act as our heart tell us, in other times or in the same, we are really stupid because we have behaviors only to make happy somebody or because somebody tell us: “do it”.
it dipends,for exampol chivalry was perhaps the most recognized quality of a true christian gentleman.. chaucer describing the knight is depicting chivalry ideal, when in fact the actions of the knight in the "wife of Bath's tale is the actual portrait of the knight that existed in those times. I don't know, maybe chaucer trying to create ideal knights obeying the code of chivalry.
well i should say what that is fake in some tales and true in anothers, because in some stories, the man is quickly, intelligent and in other is naive or maybe a little idiot, or too believer, is only read the story and you´ll see if in these story the man is a complete idiot or too naive, or too intelligent ot too loversick like the knight story, i say what the love in many times make them idiots , and blind because of that way they can´t see the real things
Yes I`m agree, for example in the tales they think that can get the women they want, in a easy way, they say that woman will be mine and believe fully in this, the men in many ocassion are really stupid but also the women are, I think that the people do strange thing for love, like Nicholas that led to Absolon kiss his ass.
