3. After reading the tales, what can you say about the definition Chaucer gives of love? Explain this concept referring to a tale. I believe that Geoffrey Chaucer has to the love a main paper in his tales, but it paper is for complement his tales, so that his idea about love is the traditional tales which everything end in love forever and ever. For example: In The Wife of Bath`s Tale for the a knight could saved his life he have to know what is it that a woman desires more than anything? And he have one year for discovered it, but, he will be beheaded, the knight decided to leave for search the answer but wherever he went the answer was always different. At the end of the year the knight still no found the answer, but, when he was way back he meet an old women, who was really ugly, he told his problem to her and she give the answer, but he had to promise to her that he will do whatever for her. When finished one year he came back to the kingdom and he said “a woman wants the same sovereignty over her husband as over her lover. She wants to master him-he must not be above her”, in this women the old woman turned to the knight and say that take for his wife. Although He didn´t want, he has to get married with her, after she converted in a young and beautiful women. And so they lived happily ever after.
in the storie of the old men married with the young girl shows the definition of love in two ways: the trust without mind and a rela blind love. in the stories you can see that the love is about infedelity an death gerbin angulo 20082165037
About Chaucer love concept, in the history, love is a no limited feeling, it is a free thing like the spirit. Love is something that is going far away from us. We can not decide about who aer we going to be in love, it brake all rules and has not boundaries. In almost all cases we make a lot of mistakes and things that we are not concients and in some cases we loss time and we are so happy. There are many definitions that we can get about this history, due to it show to us how a woman can have an affair due to this feeling for a young men that got her atention without get importance that her past love.
Well in the miller's tale, John is a old man who loves his women more that his own life but his jealous destroy all the happiness, this carpenter's jealous isn't becouse his wife, its becouse his obsession in the diference of age, This man was enclosing her and was not leaving her to go out alone,He searches to control something that cannot retain something like the youth. In this tale the love was something obsessive and sickly, she was capricious and young and he was considered to be a possible cuckold.
I think that Geoffrey Chaucer conceives Love like a pure feeling that is present in our hearts and it's able to overcome all difficulties....although society's prejudices don't leave us express and enjoy our feelings in fullness
In "The Franklin's tale", Geoffrey Chaucer satirically paints a picture of a marriage steeped in the tradition of courtly love. As Dorigen and Arveragus' relationship reveals, a couple's preocupation with fulfilling the ritualistic practices appropriate to courtly love renders the possibility of genuine love impossible. Marriage becomes a pretense… Carolina
in the stories love is blindness because women and men only think with his heart and don think wit their minds so love supose to be fidelity but in the stories fidelity doesnt exist but some if exist never goes in a good way because the men think that fidelity is when the women is always making hard work in the house and nothing more so the love for me is when you give your pure heart but you dont forget you identity
Love is everything, we can’t explain to ourselves what love is, if we cant neither they. But Love has been shown as gain your heart’s desires, in the knight’s tale; Love is show, as a competition but isn’t it true? Love isn’t butterflies in you stomach, I bet they will give you some stomach ache, love is to be in the move, to be so interesting in someone and feel that you are able to do anything, no matter what!! Love feels like you even can fly, you feel marvelous and special. But for others love is clearly a waste of time, they give the word love a bad experience, and someone gives the 3 most special words to anyone, say “I love you” it’s not easy, you cant just say it, you have to say it from the deepest of you, with all the strange that you have, ‘cause when its true, it’s just too much difficult to accept it. The challenge; is to find a wise person, who shares all the same feelings that you’ve. And it’s almost a miracle to find that kind of person. Clearly I have had my heart broken once or twice.
For Chaucer love is pure, in all the tales love is representative like a good feelings, you give your love only a one person you can not decide who give your love it is depend on the destiny but when you find a person you need to give all your heart and all your love like in the wife of bath and in Franklin`s tale.
I think that the love is something that you feel for another thing, not only for a person. Chaucer show us differents ways to love. For example in the Prioress' tale in which a young Christian child sing a song praising the Virgin Mary, and the Jews kill him; it shows the love for the religion. In the knight's tales Chaucer show us the love in two ways, one is the love that the knights feel by Emelye and the other is the love that is between the knights and their gods.
In the knight’s tale specially, I can see that Chaucer gives a superficial way to conceive the love, because at first Emily did not want to marry one of those men (Arcite and Palamon) but amazingly after the battle between Arcite and Palamon she fell in love with Palamon, moreover she did not express or show some pain or any feeling refer to Arcite’s state. Even in many stories referred to the times of knights and princesses the love has this view, the princess not even knew any guy, but one day arrives a man who mysteriously change her life or save her life and it seems love at first sight or some like that, because that man suddenly is her “blue prince” and she did not even know his life or his customs. So I ask myself: Where can be in the past or in those stories the real mean of love? Well I refer to love of a couple which they two know each other, to a relationship that configures a strong feeling past much time. There are many things that make love what it is, a special, strong, “long”, and unbreakable, maybe or occasionally, feeling or sensation. Even so I think that every body has a personal concept or mean of love, that concept depends of experiences, thoughts and liking.
The knight's tale, the wife of bath's tale and the franklin's tale; involve different kinds of love, and different love relationship. some of the loves are based on mutual respect for each people.my idea of love is one that combines the tales told in the canterbury tales. my ideal love is best expressed in "the franklin's tale," the love between the knight and his wife is based greatly on respect.. chaucer shown many aspects about love in the tales. okkk
well i can say what this concept is the most of the stories... i can refer to the administrator story...the heroin what suffer a lot, wiht his blooding marry, the years what she was in the sea, the king´s evil mother...and the way how she defend her son and her life...and she never try to make hurt to anyone... that´s my refer for chaucer gives of love... we made some things with love and without none interest and these things are good for us and the people what we can help with these things
I think that Geoffrey Chaucer conceives love as something that must be fought, like an award for doing something heroic, and also how the people do crazy things for this feeling and in many times is an unrequited love , he shows us some kinds of love despair love, insane love, pure love, and also the complexity of this feeling
